The Samsung Galaxy S3, as you may already have guessed, is the third instalment of the Galaxy series and completes the Trilogy of Samsung Galaxy S handsets. This one promises to be the best and BIGGEST yet (literally). Packed with new and cool features, powerful operating system and large display. It’s expected to be the fastest selling handset of 2012 so far.

The Look
The first thing you notice about this phone is the 4.8 inch Super Amoled HD display with the Gorilla glass. It’s big and very colourful. Also it’s extremely thin complete with curved edges and a plastic finish, sounds like a size 0 super model. The fact that it’s thin may make taking a photo a little more awkward in terms of holding the phone, the size playing a part. It has a camera on the front and on the back. The Galaxy S3 screen looks very sharp and clear. When you consider the size of the screen it complements the crisp display. The battery is secured away in the phone, which means you can’t remove it. This is common these days but if your battery goes faulty then your whole handset will need replaced.
The Performance
It is summer; things are heating up so you got to stay cool with the Ice Cream Sandwich Android operating system. This is the operating system powering the Galaxy S3 along with a Quad-core processor which is very impressive. You won’t catch this handset lagging when it comes to multi-tasking, according to testing. There is a Micro SD slot which allows up to 64GB of memory if needed. The device comes with 50 GB of free Dropbox (Link) storage for two years. With regards to the battery, this link shows that it has 10 hours playback of video, which is the 2nd best to the Motorola Razr Maxx (Link), also 10 hours talk time on 3G which is the 4th best according to this link. The web browsing is what you expect from a phone of this calibre, so no need to go into that.
The Features
8MP Camera with 1080p HD video recording –Best Photo is a feature which will takes a continuous shot which then selects the best photo based on smile detection, blink detection, contrast and blurring. This is so that you don’t have a picture with your eyes closes etc. It will then use Social tag which instantly recognises faces from the pictures and automatically offers to text the image to those people.
Smart Stay – uses eye detection to ensure the screen doesn’t dim, cool but could drain battery.
Smart Alert – Vibrates when you pick it up if you have a notification. This is a cool feature but not essential as the notification light does this for you. Nevertheless it’s new.
Smart Call – If you’re looking at a contact, it will automatically start calling when you put the phone to your ear. Again a very cool feature but not sure if it will be used.
S Voice – This is very similar to iPhone’s Siri. You can use voice activation to get access features of the phone. Useful but not sure how often this would be used.
Pop up play – Allows you to watch HD videos while you text or email. Allows you to drag the video to a position on the screen your more comfortable with.
The Verdict
I feel this will be the best Android phone so far and will succeed beyond their expectation. It’s got all the necessary ingredients and balance of features and simple things to make this a huge hit. All the features are extremely cool and inventive but will not always be used. You can expect the phone to show no lagging as it’s powerful and has plenty of memory.
The size may be cause for concern for some people but because the phone is thin but the HD display and its light weight makes ready for any bout. It also means browsing is more enjoyable as well as watching HD videos.
The Samsung Galaxy S3 will compete with the best out there; you can have no doubts about that. This will take Samsung to the next level as they continue to become stronger and stronger again.
